Google Ads (Search or display) How Much Should You Pay?
Unfortunately, this is not a straightforward question to answer! Ad spend depends on a number of factors these include:
- Bid amount
- Bid type
- Budget
- Quality of the page where you are sending visitors
- Quality of the ads you have created
Bid Amount & Budget
You may need to set a budget a little bit higher than you would like to make sure you are able to get your ads into the auctions you want!
When you set your budget think about the value of each customer and the number you are likely to convert. This allows you to calculate how much you should budget.
Quality of Page
This is called Quality Score. The better the quality of the page you are directing visitors to the lower the penalty your bid gets (yes Google ads does get quite complicated!)
To get the best chance of a good quality score using a dedicated page for your ad campaigns is best practice.
Quality of Ads
You will be pleased to know that Google will help you to improve the quality of your ads.
Following the guidance suggested for ad content is the best way to improve the quality of your ads.
You can also remove elements that are not performing very well and update new ideas to constantly improve the quality of your ads.
Expand your audience
Most platforms will allow you to load a list of e-mail addresses that you can use to create a lookalike audience.
By creating a look alike audience you can target users on the platform with similar interests to visitors. You do not need to ‘know’ these targeted users, Google, Facebook (Meta) and Bing will do all of the heavy lifting for you.
With Google Ads, you can also target visitors to specific pages on your website ie. if you run a Social Media campaign and use a landing page (of course!) You will be able to advertise to the same audience on a platform where you are incontrol!
Pro Tip
Gather e-mail addresses as your visitors progress through the buying journey. Make sure you don’t compromise on the quality! This is MONEY IN THE BANK!
In principal, social media ads are similar to Google Ads when you consider how to create them. However most platforms allow you to test different versions of text and image to find the best results.
Google to Social Media terms:
- Bid amount – Some platforms give you a choice other use other factors to limit spending
- Bid type – Some platforms allow to you target clicks or engagement
- Budget – You can generally set the total you want to spend
- Quality of the page where you are sending visitors – Not always included but should be a landing page!
- Quality of the ads you have created – Some hit and miss with you having to workout the best likely performing copy
Bid Amount & Budget
Set your timescale to a reasonable amount of time when you launch your campaign. You can always change in the future. TikTok does not allow you to stop once you have started!
Quality of Page
Although not a direct impact on the cost of advertising. Making sure your visitors expectations are met is always a good idea! Again a landing page helps to segment your audience for future use.
Quality of Ads
Depending on the platform you use will depend on the tools available to you. However all social media channels want you to advertise with them, there are varying amounts of help available!.
